1. The body starts making the eggs only nine weeks after the conception. The over 7 million oocytes are made in 5 months.

2. They actually very huge! Much bigger than an average cell in the human body. They have a diameter of 100 microns.

3. Well, if compared to the male reproductive “contribution” they eggs are very rare! A female produces only 400-500 eggs in her entire lifetime which is much less than even the number of $perm$ of a single time.

4. The growth process of an average cell takes years. They are not the quick to grow and quick to mature ones. They mature only before ovulation.

5. They are quite fragile and are prone to getting damaged easily. There’s a process called vitrification which can be used to make the outer shells harder.

6. They age and die fast. On comparison, the eggs of a younger woman will be healthier than an older one. As you grow older the % of eggs remaining keeps decreasing.

7. Only the entry of a single $perm cell is allowed in the egg. It takes only one $perm cell to infiltrate and conceive a child.

8. As opposed to common belief that it is the male reproductive organ which works the most in the conception of a child, it is actually the egg which does all the work. The passing of the DNA and chromosomes is also the work of the egg.

9. It might sound easy but is actually a very delicate and typical medical procedure. The female body first has to be hormonally balanced with injections to produce the egg which is then sucked out with the help of a device called catheter.
