The first of these attacks were the Paris attacks last year. Mason happened to be in Paris when the attacks occurred and not only Paris attacks but he was also present in the Boston attacks! The teen had surely seen a lot of violence in such a short span of time. He must have been terrorized psychologically because these attacks were deadly and they resulted in a lot of blood shed and killings. Mason Wells was surely fortunate that he survived them!
The third deadly attack, however, was the Brussels attack. At the time of the bombings Mason was a block away from the finish line of the Boston Marathon. In this attack, at least 34 people were killed and 200 injured. He was one of the victims who were injured. The State department said that “At least 12 Americans have been injured in the attacks, including Mormon missionary Mason Wells, 19, his two colleagues, a U.S. Air Force officer and the serviceman’s five family members”. It is said that the terrorists blew themselves up during the bombings and they were spotted through the CCTV cameras wearing black gloves and it is believed that those gloves had detonators!
There were explosive devices in the suitcases that those terrorists brought along and some of the shrapnel also hit Mason Wells leaving him injured. This technique was very similar to the one used during the Paris attacks last year. During the Brussels bomb blasts, he suffered from ruptured Achilles tendon, injuries from shrapnel, and second- and third-degree burns on his face and hands. Despite all these injuries, his parents are very hopeful and they know that their son will recover soon. ‘This is his third terrorist attack, This is the third time that sadly in our society that we have a connection to a bomb blast. We live in a dangerous world and not everyone is kind and loving’, Mason’s father, Chad Well says.
Currently, Mason is at a Belgian hospital getting his treatment. His parents wanted to be there for their son but Mason told them that ‘I don’t feel like you need to come to Europe but I’m not gonna stop you if you guys…if you want to, Dad,’ Mason says during the call. ‘The burns aren’t too bad at all, so they’re pretty sure they’re not gonna scare.’
Mason’s father is thankful that he is alive and he says that ‘It’s a miracle he’s alive. It’s a blessing from God he’s alive. He’s just grateful to be alive, to have survived this, we’re grateful that he survived such a horrible thing, because being right there at ground zero, and right next to the attack – and to survive – is nothing short of a huge miracle.’
“Mason has always assured us that he is safe and careful. I told him first and foremost always be aware of your surroundings, please be very careful when you’re traveling be very observant to people around you. He shared with us that he was extremely close to the blast where he was burned by it. It’s a blessing from God he’s alive”, Mason’s mother says about the entire incident.
Mason’s family says that “As a family, we feel the power of prayer from those we know and those who only heard Mason’s name for the first time today. We will continue to pray and hope for everyone affected by this tragedy”. It looks like, Mason has a really nice family and they are good-hearted people.
Joseph Empey who is 20 and was with Mason Wells has also got some serious injuries, also went through a surgery and we are glad that he is also very optimistic about his speedy recovery!
