She fell ill and then recovered but until one day when she started showing some extreme symptoms. It was like the ‘virus’ became worse. She felt extremely weak, started to feel feverish and then even had trouble walking! When she fell this much ill, and was rushed to a local hospital where doctors gave her the immediate medical attention! In the hospital, she was vomiting repeatedly like there was no end to it! Her body was swelling in a very abnormal way and her heartbeat was like that of a baby!

Her condition became so worse that the doctors weren’t able to handle her! She was immediately shifted to the intensive care unit (which she needed the most at that time)! She was then diagnosed with toxic shock syndrome which was happening to her because blood poisoning ravaged through her blood vessels which was eventually causing her kidneys and liver to fail! Yes! It got that much worse that her organs started to fail! But because she was taken to the hospital at the right time the doctors were able to help her or else she would have died if there could have been any kind of delay!

Toxic shock syndrome is a very rare but extremely dangerous kind of bacterial infection! Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes are the main reasons which cause the infection to spread in the body! It is the bacteria that very harmlessly live in a person’s mouth, nose and skin! But if they invade a person’s bloodstream they release a poisonous toxin in the body. The toxin damages the tissues and in fact the organs which disturbs the functionality of vital organs, and if toxic shock treatment is left untreated it causes a painful death of the person.

According to NHC, “Anyone can develop TSS but for reasons that are not fully understood, a significant number of cases are in women who are on their period and using a tampon – particularly those designed to be ‘super absorbent’. The role of tampons in toxic shock syndrome remains unexplained. One theory is that if a tampon is left in your v*gina for some time, as is often the case with the more absorbent types of tampons, it can become a breeding ground for the bacteria. Another theory is that the fibers of the tampon may scratch the v*gina, allowing the bacteria or the toxins to enter the blood. No evidence has been found to support either theory.”

However the doctor did everything to save the girl, they pumped her antibiotics, and she eventually survived the attack! But she later confirms that it wasn’t like she didn’t changed her tampon or left it overnight, she told the sources that she changed it after every eight hours.

When she was asked about what she went through when it happened to her, she started recalling the horror of it, ‘I felt like I’d been shot. I’ve never been so ill in my life. I got to the intensive care unit at Ventura County Medical Centre in Ventura, California, and my heartbeat was the same as a baby. I started throwing up and medics put five IVs in my arms and a tube down my nose. I remember having no family members in the room and screaming for my grandma Bonnie. I had a 103 Fahrenheit [39.4 Celsius] fever but they couldn’t give me medicine for it because my kidneys and liver were failing. My tongue was white then turned red. I had the worst sore throat ever, they gave me water but it hurt too bad to drink anything.’

“I started feeling really faint and nauseated. I could barely walk, but didn’t think much of it because I was on steroids for a different illness. On the third day I started feeling better so my friend came over. But I felt really sick when I stood up. I had to get IVs changed because my veins would collapse”, Miss Cables said when she was admitted to the hospital, “I still wasn’t allowed to eat or drink, so I was starving and still in pain. The next day they let me walk to a chair which made me more proud of myself but it hurt really bad to walk. Since I was getting stronger the next day they got me a wheelchair and let me out of intensive care and into a regular room. I was released two days after getting a new room.”

And now she is banned for using tampons ever in her life again! Miss Cable reveals, “Never did I think at 15 I’d be a survivor’, she further said, ‘But everything happens for a reason.’
